11-14-2016 MOVIE REVIEW: ALMOST CHRISTMAS (2016)
“Almost Christmas” kicks off this year’s holiday movie season and follows a family of now grown adults, who return home to be together five days before Christmas. Like other holiday films, the main narrative in this picture focuses on their ability to get along as they’ve each settled into walks of life completely different from one another. Danny Glover plays Walter, the patriarch, whose wife has recently passed away and is planning on going through with the sale of their home after the holidays, but when the kids find out will he? This is just one of many subplots director David Talbert has in store for viewers. JB Smoove, from the “Barbershop” franchise, provides some much needed humor when laughs run dry midway through. “Almost Christmas” isn’t in the same league as “The Family Stone” or “Christmas Vacation", but does provide some warm, holiday-entertainment in its near two hour runtime.
I give “Almost Christmas” 2 out of 4 Stars.
