6-23-2017 MOVIE REVIEW: WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? (2018)
Those born in the 1960’s recollection of their first television program most likely came from a soft-spoken minister who opened a large wooden door, looked straight in children’s eyes and asked them to follow him on a journey through his neighborhood. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville directs this insightful and cathartic documentary on the life of one of televisions most beloved personalities Fred Rodgers. The ninety-minute feature “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” contains dozens of never before seen interviews with family, coworkers, and friends blending just right amounts of humor and seriousness and successfully capturing the joyous life that Fred embodied and those his work impacted the most, namely children. One of the better documentaries I’ve seen in quite some time. Highly recommended. *** (1/2) stars.
